It's the central government's rooftop solar scheme for homeowners. You buy and own the system; the government pays you a subsidy for installing it. The money is transferred directly to your bank account after installation and net metering are complete.

It is not a loan, and it is not a discount the installer applies. If someone tells you they'll "adjust" your subsidy in the bill, ask them to explain that carefully.

DCR means Domestic Content Requirement — the rule that only Indian-manufactured solar cells and panels qualify for the subsidy. From December 2026 it's expected to become compulsory for subsidised rooftop systems.
